UAW Region 9A Workforce Training Center Launches Free LSAT Prep Course for Members & Families
UAW Region 9A is launching a new program, the Workforce Training Center. Funded by the Consortium for Worker Education, the Workforce Training Center will provide employment-related education and resources directly to members at no cost. We hope that these programs will help members take advantage of licensing requirements that may exist in your collective bargaining agreements and build your general educational skillset, allowing you to earn more and apply for UAW-represented jobs that match your interests.
As our inaugural course, we will be offering an 8-week intensive LSAT prep course for members and their families who plan to attend law school (see details below). When offered by for-profit institutions, these courses can cost students $2,000 or more—but through the Workforce Training Center, you will have the opportunity to take this course for free with other UAW members. As we represent hundreds of paralegals and other legal services workers in Locals 2320, 2325, and 2110 as well as undergraduate student workers, we believe this first course will be a great opportunity for members looking to go to law school and return as attorneys working in UAW-represented legal services organizations.
It’s our hope that as the Workforce Training Center grows we will be able to offer different and more diverse courses that meet the needs of our diverse membership in different sectors and throughout the region. If you have an idea for a course that would be helpful in your workplace or local, please don’t hesitate to reach out! These courses will also be in addition to our recent launch of theUAW Region 9A Worker Power Institute which focuses on training, conferences, and programs related to bargaining, grievances, strikes, labor history and other union education topics.
